Wisconsin loss good for Big 10

The Wisconsin Badgers finally lost a game. Nice run. They will surely start another one soon since they are the class of the Big 10 right now.

In the grand scheme of things, losing to Indiana is not a bad thing for the Big 10. Now instead of a conference of 2 good teams and a whole bunch of also rans, Indiana gets a big win which makes them a team to pay attention to, also.

I’m not sure if the Big 10 will manage more than 4 or 5 teams in the tournament, but it is certainly more entertaining to watch a 3 team race than a 2 team race. And, it will definitely help Indiana’s seed without hurting Wisconsin’s too badly.

Plus, it is fun to watch the Badger fan at work whine about the officiating at Indiana. It is refreshing to hear somebody beside me and my family complaining about it.

The Hawkeyes Give Me A Present

My twins were born four years ago on January 31, 2003. The Hawkeyes gave me (or maybe them) a present by managing to beat Michigan on the road last night on their birthday. Good job Hawks. Way to fight back from an early deficit, play tough defense and win a game.

I won’t start claiming that the Hawkeyes are going to run the table or anything crazy like that. I still think they will be an inconsistant team with some bad losses and some nice wins. Yesterday was a nice win.

I am impressed with how well Tyler Smith seems to be adapting to the Big 10. Let’s see if he can hang on in the later games of the season when he starts to wear down. I think he will. He seems like he’s going to be a real player that will do some very good things over the next few years.

The good thing about the win is it keeps the Hawks 4-4 in the conference and provides the team with a pretty good road win. If they have any dreams of getting into the NCAA tournament, they are going to have to win more games than they lose from here on out and some of those need to be on the road…unless they can manage to run the table in the Big 10 Tournament again.
