Infant Hawkeye Clothes

We’re going to be giving birth to another Hawkeye fan this fall (October 19th is the due date).

We have always had trouble finding good Hawkeye clothes for the kids but now that they are in size 6 this year, it should get much easier.

I decided that I should start scouring the internet for some infant gear and found something on Amazon that I might have to find the credit card for.

It’s a nice little gold and black onesie (with a matching bib).

The onesie only comes in size 6-9, but she’ll probably be able to fit in it by the end of basketball season and we can make her look ridiculous in the oversized outfit during the late part of the football season.

Anybody know any good places online or in the Quad Cities to find infant gear? We live a few hours away so I don’t get much time to window shop for Hawkeye clothes when we come up for game day.

Drew Tate’s First Post Game Interview

I was thinking about how much I want the college football season to start the other day and just remembering fun moments from the early part of past seasons. The memory that stands out the most is the post game interview after Drew Tate’s first game as a starter two seasons ago.

He had to leave the game with cramps from dehydration. Apparently, at half time he tried to rehdyrate by drinking a bunch of gatorade. Just before they were set to return to the field he got sick and sat the rest of the game.

During the post game interview, they were asking him about his inability to return for the second half. He hadn’t had enough time to develop his interview polish yet. He blurted out something like, “I drank to much Gatorade at half time and started throwing up blue and green and yellow….”

Classic stuff. With the boring interviews that the good players give these days, it was fun to hear an interview from a kid just having fun with what he was doing and not trying to avoid embarassment that could hurt his potential pro career.

I will admit to being scared when he cramped up in his second game, too.  Thank goodness he got over that phase and decided it would be better to be able to play all four quarters.

Brunner and Horner to Play In Belgium

Both Brunner and Horner have signed to play on two different teams in Belgium.

Brunner must have decided he wasn’t going to get much playing time with Minnesota Timberwolves and I’m not sure if Horner had any kind of offers.

While not as exciting as playing in the NBA, playing in Europe is going to be a great experience for both Iowa players. I spent a measly six weeks in Germany several years ago and still remember almost every second of it. Getting to live overseas right after college is an extremely educational experience. Both Brunner and Horner grew up in Iowa. I’m not sure how many vacations they’ve taken out of the country, but I’m sure there will be some culture shock moving away for so long. At least they’ll be able to hang out together while they get used to everything.

Hopefully, both will be able to make a return to the U.S. to play in the NBA, but if not, they will get paid well, get to play competitive basketball, and get an experience unlike anything that most people in America get.

I’ve been a Hawkeye fan for as long as I can remember. I remember listening to games on the radio back even before I started going to school. I was separated from Iowa back in 1982 when we moved to Illinois for my dad’s new job. I never lost my ties to the Hawkeyes.

All through school I was convinced that I would be a point guard for Iowa. I attended the basketball camp every summer back when Tom Davis was the coach. I won one of the four Camp MVP awards in 1992.

I started on my varsity team but never learned how to dribble well enough to play guard in college and never grew past 6′2″.

About 17 years ago, about the time I started High School, the most amazing thing happened. My dad bought two season tickets that ended up being on the 38 yard line, front row on the visiting side. I’ve taunted just about every coach and player to come through the Big 10 over the years.

Since then, we’ve increased our tickets to 4. My sister and dad’s brother come to the games now with us.

During the reorg from the renovation project our seats were taken, but we ended up getting front row, 30 yard line on the home side now. Amazing. I can’t wait for the season to begin.

I’m planning on using this site to talk about Iowa Hawkeye sports, review the games, share old memories, learn what some of the old players are up to, and talk to you.

Since Iowa is part of the Big 10, there will be some general talk about the conference and the NCAA in general.

I’m also planning on starting a forum up when the season gets started.

Look forward to talking to you. If you come to a game, feel free to come find me in my seat. Once I see that exact ticket number, I’ll let you know where I’m at.
