Alamo Bowl Preview

I was waiting to decide what I thought about Iowa’s chances against Texas in the Alamo Bowl until I heard whether Colt McCoy was going to be healthy or not.
He’s going to play. That is not good for Iowa.
The only hope that Iowa had is that Texas would be scrambling to get a competent quarterback on the field. Colt is pretty competent.
An interesting story line to watch is how much Drew Tate is going to press to force himself to a good last game as a Hawkeye. Tate is not only from Texas but when he left high school he held a lot of high school quarterback records. Then, throw in playing that last ever college game in Texas against Texas and the often frustrating season he has had and you can not convince me that he isn’t going to try to be the hero. The sad thing is that we may need him to be a hero to have a chance to win.
I am terrified that he is going to throw the ball into coverage too often. I’m expecting a very Brett Favre type game. Maybe he will be the great quarterback that we have often seen. But, Texas is a very talented team.
I am expecting Iowa to make a few turnovers, probably at least a couple interceptions, and lose by at least 14. I really want to be able to play the Hawkeye Homer and predict the miracle, but I just have a lot of trouble believing that is going to happen this year.
