Importance of a point guard

Mike Henderson is starting to get back into game shape. This is going to be extremely important for any hopes of the Iowa Hawkeyes not sucking this year.

The point guard is the guy who keeps the offense running smoothly. Breaking in a new point guard takes time. Having a experienced senior like Henderson is a very nice commodity.

Having scorers on the team is obviously important, but I would say that a good point guard is the most important position in basketball. Just like quarterbacks in football, it is very tough to get into a good rhythm without a good point guard.

So far this year, the Hawkeyes have been pretty bad. There are a lot of new guys getting significant minutes. Hopefully, when the new year starts up, the team will have had enough practices with Henderson at point to help fix a lot of problems.

With that said, if they don’t get somebody to learn how to rebound there is going to be some serious trouble with the Big 10 opponents. Right now, Haluska leads the time with under 5 rebounds a game. They’ll get eaten alive in the Big 10 if the big guys don’t start pulling their weight a little more.
