Of course I can’t find the source now, but I read recently that Iowa is budgeting taking about 600 people to the Alamo Bowl (if you can point me to the source, I would greatly appreciate it). The travel budget is something like $1.2 million. That’s my kind of vacation budget.
Since there are only 85 scholarship positions, and a handful of coaches, I’m guessing that the other 500 people must be school admins, band, cheerleaders, and parents.
I understand taking the band and cheerleaders. I understand a few admins such as the school president and athletic director.
I’m not really sure I understand paying the bill for parents, though. Anybody have any information about what the school actually pays for? Room, board, and airlines?
Does the school also pay for the parents of the basketball and wrestling teams when they go to the NCAA Tournaments? Do they pay for the parents of the cross country, swimming, and field hockey teams?
Sounds like I have a research project. I’ll let you know if I find the answers.
