A late rally is not the same thing as a competitive game

Justin Johnson provided tons of excitement last night hitting a bunch of 3 pointers in the last 2 minutes of the Iowa - Indiana game. That’s some major cajones and some big fun for the fans that stuck around.

But the reality is that if he doesn’t get abnormally hot at the end of the game then Indiana just continues to pull away and walks out of Iowa with a relatively easy double digit victory. I don’t think anybody in the Iowa program really believes that launching desperation 3s at the end of a game actually makes them a legitimately competitive team yet.

Johnson described his last 3 pointer which banked in from near half court like this:

I looked at the (basket) and threw up a prayer.

Still, furious rallies are fun to watch and I am thrilled that the team was able to keep their composure and stay as close as they were with 2 minutes to go. I just wouldn’t be predicting post season expectations based on a hot 2 minutes against a good team.

Hopefully, Jake Kelly can recover quickly. The most up to date information that I saw said that he would probably not play in the Wisconsin game on Saturday. Does anybody have any updates on how long it looks like the Hawkeyes will be down another player.
