I was very happy with Iowa during the Syracuse game. Almost everybody on the time played very well. About the only thing we really did not get to see was a field goal attempt which reminded me that the field goal kicking seemed like a potential problem area during the Northern Illinois game.

Missing an extra point and a 37 yard field goal was enough to cause some alarm.

The headline over at Hawk Central said “Signor’s misses no reason to worry yet.

Maybe they were bad snaps or bad holds or just flukes and he will end up making all of his field goals and extra points the rest of the season.  I had complete confidence in him last year when he stepped in for Kyle Schlicher.  But then again I think most of us had a lot of confidence that Michigan was going to be pretty good this year based on the performance of their key players last year.  And Tate last year based on his performance the year before that.

No matter what, shanking an extra point and fairly easy field goal in the opening game of the year are exactly the kinds of things that should cause people to worry.

The easiest way to ease those worries is to make some field goals which he never had a chance to do in the Syracuse game.  He did successfully put 5 extra points through the uprights.  Hopefully he’ll get a couple attempts for 3 points in the Iowa State game and prove that there really isn’t anything to worry about in the kicking game.

I really do expect him to have a great year.  But I don’t need to be told not to worry about when a guy has trouble in the first game of the year.  Besides, with everything else going pretty well, there are not many other things to worry about.
