Lance Smith is a running back for Wisconsin. He was suspended from the team a couple months ago after getting arrested for beating up his girlfriend after allegedly refusing to let her leave his apartment, taking her shoes and taking her money so that she couldn’t even afford a cab.
He is facing battery charges but at this point everything is in the alleged status.
Barry Alvarez hooked Smith up by letting him rejoin the team and play in games…with a catch. He can only play in home games.
I’m confused. I’m all for everybody being innocent until proven guilty. So he should be allowed to continue playing until the legal system locks him up if he is convicted.
I’m all for the university deciding that they have enough evidence that they don’t want him hanging around the team.
But what kind of decision is it to let the kid play at home but not on the road? I never managed to get into any real legal trouble as a kid. I did, however, get into a lot of parent trouble. Not once did my parents tell me that I could keep playing my Nintendo at home but not at my friends’ houses.
